It is with pleasure and pride that Per S. Ovesen - Rare Violins, offer this very rare and fine viola made by Joannes Baptista Guadagnini in Milan c.1755 for sale. This instrument present itself in a beautiful state of preservation, its excellent sound quality's suitable for international soloist and/or chamber musician alike.
Description of the instrument:
The back is made from a single piece of slab cut maple with a faint transverse curl and intermittent bird's eye markings. The wood of the ribs match the back, whilst the scroll is of plain maple.
The front is of two matched pieces of spruce, the grain of regular medium width throughout.
The varnish is of clear brown-orange tint, laid over a golden ground.
The viola is a good and characteristic example of the maker's work, and although the outline has been somewhat reduced, is generally in fine condition.
